Find Your Favorite Color in Lake Geneva this Fall

Lake Geneva, WI (September 27, 2016) The state of Wisconsin Fall Color Report estimates the third week of October will be peak time for finding your favorite color in Lake Geneva. Whether you choose to time your fall getaway for peak time or anytime now through November, the Lake Geneva area is bursting with seasonal events and activities for all ages and interests. Here are some tips to get the most out of your fall getaway to Lake Geneva.

Hit the Road
Find your favorite fall colors by taking a ride on the three Wisconsin Rustic Roads (R-11, R-12 and R-36 totaling nearly 20 miles of scenic fall driving) that access the Lyons State Wildlife Area just northeast of Lake Geneva. These quiet country roads traverse glacial Kettle Moraine topography passing through large wooded areas of oak, maple and hickory, as well as old cranberry bogs and the tiny community of Lyons with its several quaint churches. The Rustic Roads, easily accessed via Sheridan Springs Road and Spring Valley Road, are perfect for scooter rentals and tours offered by Scoot Jockeys.

Get on the Water
Enjoy the beauty of the fall colors aboard one of the Lake Geneva Cruise Line boats. The Cruise Line offers a variety of bay and lake cruises with views of the magnificent estates that ring the lake and the season’s backdrop of vibrant colors. Or paddle while you take in the fall colors with a canoe or kayak rental offered by Clearwater Outdoor and Fontana Paddle Company.

Hike or Bike
Take in the colors by hiking a piece of the 21-mile Geneva Lake Shore Path for close up views of the multi-million dollar estates with beautiful landscaping built by wealthy Chicagoans after the Great Chicago Fire. For a more rustic hike, head to the Duck Lake Nature Area trail that follows the southern side of Lake Como between Lake Geneva and Como, Wisconsin. Scenery abounds along the former rail bed restricted to hikers only.

Mountain bikers head to the Adventure Center at The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa or Lake Geneva Canopy Tours. Both locations offer about 9 miles of trails ranging from beginner to expert.

Zipline or Golf
Get adventurous and see the colors as you soar through the trees with Lake Geneva Canopy Tours ziplining. Canopy Tours offers eight different ziplines, five sky bridges, three spiral stairways and a one-of-a-kind “floating” double helix stairway which wraps around a breathtaking ash tree. The 1,200-foot dual racing zipline is the grand finale.

With 11 courses ranging from championship to par-3 level experiences, golf is another option for seeing the fall colors in Lake Geneva. Geneva National Resort offers three courses, each designed by masters Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino. Carved out of the rolling countryside, Geneva National’s golf courses take full advantage of the natural surroundings. Majestic Oaks at Lake Lawn Resort is a championship golf course among 275 tree-lined acres and the 27-hole course at Evergreen Country Club is recognized as an outstanding value.

Go to a Fall Festival
Lake Geneva’s Oktoberfest (October 8 and 9) invites the entire family to Downtown Lake Geneva and features pony rides, bouncy houses, children’s performances, German music and food as well as Scootoberfest games, the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-in, and the neighboring Sprechtoberfest’s beer tent.

Lake Lawn Resort’s annual Fall Family Festival (October 7 – 9) is packed with fall themed events including scarecrow building, pumpkin decorating, hayrides, a Fall Harvest buffet, and more. Also popular is the Elegant Farmer in Mukwonago, WI. Their Harvest Fest is going on now through October 23, and features pick-your-own pumpkins and apples, as well as train rides, pony rides and hayrides. Don’t forget to try their world-famous Apple Pie Baked in a Paper Bag!

You don’t have to travel far to find your favorite color this fall. With luxury resorts, historic hotels, and quaint bed and breakfasts, Lake Geneva also offers boutique shopping and plenty of dining choices to help you take a break from your leaf peeping activities. For help planning your fall getaway, call (800) 345-1020 or go to www.visitlakegeneva.com.

Grand Geneva Resort & Spa Honored with 2016 Gold Key Award

Meetings & Conventions magazine recognizes Grand Geneva Resort & Spa for demonstrating excellence in meetings and events with distinguished award

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (August 16, 2016) – Lake Geneva’s AAA, Four-Diamond Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, owned and operated by Marcus Hotels & Resorts, is proud to be a recipient of the Meetings & Conventions (M&C) 2016 Gold Key Award in the Best Hotel/Resort category in the Midwestern region. This accolade recognizes the property as one of the country’s top resorts for meetings and events for the fourth time in five years.

Located in Lake Geneva, Wis., Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is the area’s only AAA Four-Diamond property, and features more than 62,000 square feet of devoted meeting space. On site, event planners and visitors will find a variety of amenities and unique seasonal activities, including two championship golf courses – The Brute and The Highlands, award-winning restaurants, an 18-run ski hill, a full-service spa, equestrian trails, and hiking, biking and more at the new Adventure Center.

“We are delighted and proud to receive such an esteemed accolade,” said David DiSalvo, director of sales and marketing.  “Our associates work hard to provide guests and meeting planners with an exceptional experience during their visit and it’s great to see their effort recognized. We are sincerely grateful to the readers for selecting Grand Geneva as one of the best resorts in the Midwest and look forward to continuing to provide the highest level of service.”

For over 35 years, M&C’s Gold Key Awards have recognized leading hotels that have excelled in servicing meeting and event professionals, as voted on by the readers of M&C. This year, hotel chains were recognized nationally, while leading hotel properties were recognized in several categories regionally in the U.S. and worldwide.

“Our readers tell us that what sets these Gold Key Award-winning hotels apart is their commitment to ensuring not only the highest degree of support in planning events, but also a commitment to executing them,” said David Blansfield, Executive Vice President and Group Publisher, Northstar Meetings Group, which publishes M&C.  “Our entire team joins M&C’s readers in honoring these outstanding hotels and their staffs who make it their mission to facilitate memorable event experiences, for planners and attendees alike. Their superior levels of excellence elevate our entire industry.”

Readers of M&C voted for the winners of the Gold Key Awards via online ballots and provided feedback based on their professional experiences worldwide for their top hotels, conference centers and CVBs. All winners will be listed in M&C’s annual Gold Awards special issue, in print and online, distributed to 50,000 readers in November 2016. The online version will be posted simultaneously and available for viewing for a full-year online.
